1. Mission & Research Focus
This site collects research notes and format guides for Innerloop Studios' games: Project I.G.I.: I'm Going In (2000) and I.G.I. 2: Covert Strike (2003).
The guides combine repository research, 010 Editor templates, parser implementations, and test fixtures where available. A parser or template documents the current implementation; it does not by itself prove every interpretation against original retail files.
IGI project repositories are maintained under github.com/heaven-hm.
2. Open-Source Projects
These links provide implementation and research context. Feature coverage varies by repository and format:
project-igi-editor
An open-source editor project for inspecting and authoring Project IGI levels. Consult its README for current feature status and supported asset types.
project-igi-converter
Converter implementations and parser code used as one cross-check for selected format guides. Support and round-trip behavior are format-specific; see the source and tests for current coverage.
project-igi-toolkit
Research utilities and notes. Each claim should be checked against the repository evidence and its stated scope.
project-igi-natives
A repository of native-method research for IGI 1 and IGI 2; names and signatures may be provisional where original symbols are unavailable.
3. Research Sources
These repositories document the graph format, provide an implementation cross-check, and record related engine research:
IGI 1 Graph Research
Static and runtime analysis of graphs.dat, including field signatures, data types and
IDA/Ghidra method addresses. Research by Dimon Krevedko, Yoejin Light and Artiom Rotari, continued by
IGI ResearchDevs@HM.
Project I.G.I. Converter
C++ and Python conversion tools. Its graph parser checks the graphs.dat header and the
AIGraph task-origin position transform.
Project I.G.I. Natives
Reverse-engineered database of engine methods, signatures and DLL hooks for I.G.I. 1 and I.G.I. 2.
4. Acknowledgements
The reverse-engineering and preservation of Project IGI would not have reached this level of technical precision without the foundational work of the researchers credited here:
- Artiom: Ground-breaking reverse-engineering work on Innerloop's proprietary file formats and the early Python extraction scripts (
igipy). - GM123: Invaluable insights into the Innerloop QVM virtual machine, script decompilation algorithms, and memory layout structures.
- Dimon Krevedko, Yoejin Light and Artiom Rotari: The original Project I.G.I. 1 graph structure research — node, edge and criteria data in
graphs.dat, recovered by static and runtime analysis. Continued by IGI ResearchDevs@HM.
5. Sources, method & limits
Format pages cite the evidence used for their layouts. The main sources in this workspace are the shared and game-specific 010 Editor templates, parser/compiler source in the IGI converter repositories, graph research notes, and tests. GitHub links above point to the project repositories; the template directory and research directory are directly browsable.
Where a template and parser agree, pages describe that implementation and identify it as such. Where sources conflict, the page records the discrepancy. Retail-file confirmation is only claimed when the relevant sample and test are available; no universal accuracy guarantee is made for unverified interpretations. This documentation was prepared with human and AI assistance; assistance is not evidence, and statements are included only when tied to inspectable sources or clearly marked as unresolved.
